ABOUT

OUR MISSION

Eco House San Michele is a cultural innovation and sustainable tourism project aimed at promoting experiential / outdoor itineraries in the Pontine Plain, Lepini Mountains and Lazio coast

HISTORY

The pioneers settled in the Pianura Pontina in the 1920s.

Thus rural settlements and villages were born, the roads shaped the landscape and along them the marshes became agricultural areas.

The Opera Nazionale Combattenti (ONC) took care of the management of the lands and farms that were gradually established in the reclaimed lands, entrusting them in concession to settlers coming for the vast majority from the then poor and overcrowded regions of Veneto, Friuli and 'Emilia.

Each house had a plot of land that had to be cultivated to produce food goods destined in part for the fascist regime; each member of the family contributed by working the land.

Then World War II tore the arms from the fields.

After the war many farms were abandoned or no one returned.

In the 1960s many of them were managed by the A.N.A.S. who converted them into roadman's houses intended for road maintenance.

With the Prime Ministerial Decree 2001, A.N.A.S. handed over part of the properties to the regions.

In 2020 the Mimesi's A.p.s. is the tenant of the historic roadman's house (ONC farm) in Borgo San Michele, Latina.

The association pursues the aim of redeveloping the external spaces and regenerating the structure by transforming the old farm into a resting place, electric charging for hybrid vehicles, E-bike and starting point for discovering the area. The key idea of the project is to build a green and eco-sustainable oasis in the heart of the Agro Pontino.
